About Dan
I’ve been practicing Tai Chi, Qigong, Kung Fu, and martial arts for more than 15 years, and I’ve been teaching since 2016.
I’m also a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and positive psychology coach, which shapes the way I teach. I’ve seen how mindful movement can support not only physical health, but also emotional well-being, resilience, body awareness, and a greater sense of calm.
To me, Tai Chi is meditation in motion — practical, grounding, and deeply helpful for modern life.
My teaching style is calm, step-by-step, and beginner-friendly. I especially enjoy helping people who feel stiff, unsteady, stressed, or unsure where to start. Whether you are brand new to Tai Chi or returning after time away, you are welcome here.
I’m a certified instructor in Wudang Yang Style Tai Chi and Qigong through 9 Dragons Healing Arts, where I completed the Certified Instructor Training program under Master Trainer Simu Tamara Kaneen.
This training included:
I also studied traditional Yang Style Tai Chi for more than 10 years with Sifu Franklin Wood, founder of the School of Tao Chi. His teaching deepened my appreciation for Tai Chi as both a traditional internal art and a practical path for health, awareness, and personal growth.
To better support beginners, older adults, and students interested in balance and mobility, I have also completed training in Sun Style Tai Chi for Arthritis and Fall Prevention.
This approach emphasizes gentle movement, upright posture, smaller steps, smooth weight shifting, and safe progression. It fits well with the way I teach: slowly, clearly, and with respect for each student’s comfort level.
This training supports my focus on:
I also trained in Southern Style Kung Fu under Master Trainer Sifu Michael Kaneen, earning Purple Belt – 4th Stripe.
This training included:
While my current public classes focus on gentle Tai Chi and Qigong for health, balance, mobility, and stress relief, my broader martial arts background gives me a deep respect for posture, alignment, coordination, grounding, and mindful movement.
In class, I bring together traditional Tai Chi training, Qigong, health-focused Tai Chi methods, mindfulness, and a calm counseling-informed teaching style.
Students can expect:
The goal is not performance or perfection.
